24/07/2015: Trout is out: UK Diners shun British fish for more exotic fare

Fish experts are warning that within a generation this most British of meals could disappear from menus because diners are tucking into more exotic fare, the Express reports.

Imported fish such as pangasius from Southeast Asia and African tilapia appear to be exciting the nation’s tastebuds far more than a traditional trout dishes.

Salmon, the other British freshwater fish has also been muscling in on rainbow trout sales.

Over the last decade rainbow trout sales have been in steady decline, dropping by nearly 10 per cent within the last five years.

High street supermarket Morrisons is warning the British rainbow trout could disappear completely at meal times within 17 years.
