06/07/2015: Growing number of ASC accredited auditors

The number of auditors trained to assess farms against the ASC standards is steadily increasing. Following training workshops held last month in Bangkok on ASC's shrimp and tilapia standards, a further 12 auditors are now ready to carry out audits on farms seeking ASC certification.

The training was delivered by Dr Kim Jauncey, who has worked within the research industry for many years and Ms Kim Thanh Nguyen, who has extensive experience as a lead auditor within aquaculture.

Successful completion of the ASC standards' training is a prerequisite for auditors who wish to be accredited to assess farms against the standards.

Each standard and its requirements are discussed in detail during training to ensure they are correctly interpreted. Also, the attendees are offered guidance about what evidence or action is required during assessments and they have the opportunity to raise questions or discuss any queries.

Only accredited certification bodies are allowed to conduct farm audits against the ASC Standards. Certifiers who would like to be accredited should contact Accreditation Service International (ASI).
