Menhaden are a popular bait fish

A biologist said he thought about seismic testing, porpoises and dolphins, but those probably aren’t the reasons all these menhaden died. He thinks another type of fish was feeding on a large school of the small fish near the ocean surface, and when the high tide rolled around, they started washing up on shore.

As far as seismic testing, the biologist explained that would be more of a concern for marine mammals. He also said he was not aware of any testing that would link to a fish kill like this one.
