Event: Seminar on global seafood platforms

What are global seafood platforms, and how they can help ?

Roy is visiting from Melbourne, Australia and will give a presentation about his passion:
the creation of Global Seafood Platforms (GSPs) followed by a general discussion on ideas covering this concept and issues of seafood in nutrition, food security and market access

Roy will be in FAO this week and can be found  in Room F-509.

Brief History

Roy has been involved in the seafood industry since 1972 involved in all aspects of the post harvest industry. Additionally he has travelled the seafood world extensively. Over this period he has lived in Melbourne, Sydney and Hong Kong.

He has been the driving force in the creation of the world’s first and only Fish Names Standard (ISO approved) and engaged in ‘industry issues’ from early 80’s when was made inaugural President of Victorian Importers Assn. From 1991 -2003 he owned/operated seafood retail operations (3 outlets). During this period was Deputy Chairman of SeaQual and on the Board of Seafood Training Australia at which time the National Seafood Training Package was created. He became a Qualified Trainer and obtained Diploma in Seafood Processing.

He was a Director of Seafood Services Australia Ltd (Deputy Chairman) for two terms and on Victorian Governments Fisheries Co-Management Council for 3 years.

From 2003 after winning the inaugural Australian Seafood Training Award he took up a career in training and became involved in establishment of Seafood CRC Bid being a member of the organising, bid and interview team.

He was asked to take over the running of SEA in 2006 and took up opportunity to be CE since May 2008.

He became President of the WAS-APC in November 2009 and received special recognition Award of the International Association of Seafood Professionals (IAFI) in 2009.

In 2010 he created the International Seafood &Health Conference in Melbourne as he sees this as a massive driver for future access to important water resources.

In 2010 he became a Director of Aquaculture without Frontiers and has now become joint Chief executive of that organisation. He was a Panel Member for both Marketing and Training & Services Panels at FAO Global Aquaculture Conference (Phuket).

In 2011 he took on the role of BDM for Australasia for GAA-BAP and helped create GILLS and moderated think tanks at Biomarine Congress in Nantes.

In 2012 he helped coordinate Australasian Aquaculture Conference and associated workshops and tours as well as the BioMarine Organisation Congress in London where again he ran the Aquaculture Think Tanks.

In 2013 he was elected as a Board member for WAS for 3 years and has chosen to create a legacy project GSP – Aquaculture Education, Training & Workforce Development.

He runs the Association of International Seafood Professionals LinkedIn group (3500+ members) and writes for a number of magazines, journals, blogs, etc and has been a regular presenter at Conferences.
